The Best Spots to Visit for Summer Vacation in Bedford

You don’t have to go anywhere with your kids to give them an amazing summer vacation. Just playing in your own backyard, reading stories together, and playing games or making crafts will give your kids a summer to remember. But when you do want to get out and have some family fun these are fantastic places in and near Bedford to go as a family.

River Legacy Living Science Center

You can escape the Texas summer heat at the River Legacy Living Science Center.  Your kids will love the interactive exhibits and things to do. There are more than 12,000 square feet packed with science experiments, exhibits, and hands-on learning and play areas. The Science Center also leads directly into River Legacy Parks so you can explore the parks and do a little hiking when you’re tired of being indoors. 

Summit Rock Climbing

If you and your kids head to Summit Rock Climbing during the summer you might run into Dr. Paul, who loves being active and doing outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing. Kids can safely run around and climb the walls at this instructional center. You might have some fun challenging yourself to a climb as well!

NRH2O Water Park

When the temperature rises there’s no better way to spend a day than at the 17-acre NRH2O family water park. There’s a wave pool, a lazy lagoon, water slides of all sizes, and enough water-based entertainment to keep everyone in the family happy all day long. It’s a good idea to get tickets in advance because it can be very crowded during summer vacation and you don’t want to waste time standing in long lines, especially if you have small kids. 

The Planetarium At UT Arlington

You can beat the heat or plan a special nighttime adventure at the Planetarium at UT Arlington.  There are live stargazing programs for kids that are a great way to make a summer night special. They also have lots of exhibits and interesting information for kids along with some interactive activities that are fun for the whole family. 

Legoland Discovery Center

The whole family will enjoy a day of making things at the Legoland Discovery Center, but it’s really a fantastic place to take smaller kids. They will have a blast playing with all the hands-on exhibits and seeing the “Build and Test” area where people are making fascinating things using Legos. 

Fort Worth Stockyards

For some traditional Texas-style fun take the family to the Forth Worth Stockyards. You can watch a rodeo, visit the barns to see horses, cattle, goats, and other animals, and have some active fun in the hay mazes and other activities. Your kids will love spending time with the animals and seeing such vivid displays of Texas history. 

Fort Worth Museum Of Science And History

If your kids love to learn you can’t miss the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Keep an eye out for Dr. Dakota if you are heading to a museum or an aquarium! Dr. Dakota loves museums and aquariums… and we think you and your kids will love this museum too! In addition to more traditional museum exhibits the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has a lot of exhibits showcasing local Texas history. There’s a great Children’s Museum as well that has all kinds of activities and play areas for smaller kids. 

SeaQuest Fort Worth

No summer vacation would be complete without a trip to SeaQuest Fort Worth so your kids can see sharks, stingrays, and other sea creatures. SeaQuest has some fantastic programs, like “Snorkel with Stingrays” where kids can get into the water and swim with stingrays, or “Sleep With The Sharks,” an overnight educational experience designed to teach kids about sharks and sea life. “Sleep With The Sharks” is a fantastic birthday party destination where kids get to sleep tank-side, watch a movie, and watch the sharks being fed by staff members. 

Log Cabin Village

Kids always have a great time at Log Cabin Village. This recreated 19^th-century village is a living museum where kids can see what life was like for Texans in the 1800s and learn more about the history of Texas and the history of Bedford. 

Bedford Trails Linear Park

Bedford Trails Linear Park is a fantastic place to take the kids and your dog to go for a nice walk after dinner. It’s also a fun place to bike on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
